    Nicely said Prescott,

    So much of Logo design happens before any graphics software is even open, its in the conceptual and the creative. Its being able to think about a market and a brand voice. These things cannot be made into a simple tool, and that is where designers will continue to be valuable.

  • The problem with Squarespace logo, I feel, is not in the technology itself, but in the underlaying philosophy. By creating such a product and marketing it as they have done, it implies that the entire practice of logo design — which goes back generations and draws on ancient/medieval roots — only exists today because designers have capitalised on a technological gap between designers and clients. But with this new technology, clients can close that gap. Clearly, that’s not the case.

    Instead, I feel they should have released it as a general layout tool, and promoted it for simple graphics, for annotating photographs, and other uses where lay people might need a touch of graphics. I’d actually prefer such a tool become publicly known so we can finally get people out of Powerpoint for anything and everything.

    Not mad at this one, but it’s curious that they would “go there” with logo design in the first place.
